A31 motorway (Netherlands)

The A31 / N31 is a motorway and an expressway in the Netherlands. It connects the A7 near Zurich with the A7 near Drachten. The Frisian capital Leeuwarden is located alongside this road.

Route

Between Zurich and Harlingen this road is an expressway with four lanes (2x2) and grade separations. In Harlingen this road has got two lanes (2x1) with grade separations.

After this the motorway route starts. That motorway has got a length of 175-kilometre (109 mi). The maximum speed is 120 km/h here. At exit 22 one has to take this exit to follow the N31.

Around Leeuwarden the N31 is a road with at-grade intersections and roundabouts. The road has got 2x1 lanes.

The last route (from Leeuwarden to Drachten) is also an expressway with 2x2 lanes and grade separations. One has converted this route into an expressway between 2003 and 2008. Before that this route had got 2x1 lanes.
